Breakup & removal of large mass concrete structures - safes & underground tanks
These structures are often tackled with a similar approach concrete beams. This is due to the fact that they are usually constructed of thick sometimes high mpa concrete with a lot of reinforcing steel.
Harder and deeper concrete is very much more resistant to impact, thereby requiring the need for much larger demolition machinery, leading to greater issues of access, noise and vibration transfer to adjacent buildings.
Bursting for concrete breakup Bursting is used to split large sections of concrete as the ram works from within a hole(s) drilled in the concrete to push the concrete apart. (As everyone knows concrete - in the absence of reinforcing steel - is nowhere near as strong under tension than as under compression).
Hence with a number of strategically drilled holes it is possible to fracture large and deep concrete sections as the ram on the burster is driven against the sides of the section.
Less heavily engineered structures can be more readily removed by a combination of concrete cutting and sawing, assisted where possible, with diggers.
